Coffs Harbour City Council

The steep hills and fertile soils of the Coffs Harbour area are not only spectacular but, when combined with the heavy annual coastal rainfall, provide special engineering challenges in many areas.

GSS has worked closely with Coffs Harbour City Council on several North Coast landslip sites and has been required to employ varying techniques and specialised materials and equipment to solve the challenges created by the terrain.

Pinned drapery, one of the complex specialist techniques employed, included the use of Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) soil nails, rock anchors, a turf reinforcement mat (TRM) and 3mm double twist high tensile steel collapsible mesh.

A shotcrete retaining wall was also completed on the low side of the road to ensure stability and allow the widening of the road.
